Free welfare and housing support
Access to financial support and suitable housing are two of the biggest issues facing children and young people with cancer and their families. Cancer costs from the point of diagnosis, but getting access to welfare benefits can be difficult. Suitable accommodation is a must in order to be able to focus on treatment, but there can be huge delays to getting support with housing issues.
That’s why we work in partnership with Citizens Advice to offer free advice and support to parents of children with cancer and young cancer patients about their money, housing and rights.
What is it?
Our Welfare Benefits and Housing Support Service is run by trained advisers who understand the issues facing parents who have a child with cancer. They can answer any questions, from money issues to problems at work, right to repairs and adaptations at home to challenging local authority housing decisions. They can carry out full financial checks to see what benefits young cancer patients and their families may be entitled to.
The service is free and confidential. We‘re here to help young cancer patients and their parents understand and protect their rights, navigate the maze of benefits and other financial support provided by the government, and to make sure they get the help they’re entitled to.
