Signet and Young Lives vs Cancer celebrate 10th anniversary of charity partnership
Signet Jewelers, UK and Ireland, part of Signet Jewelers, the world’s largest diamond retailer, and Young Lives vs Cancer are celebrating the 10th anniversary of their successful charity partnership. Since October 2014, an incredible £1.3million has been raised to support children and young people with cancer and their families.
Over the past ten years, staff at Signet’s high street jewelers, H Samuel and Ernest Jones stores across the country and also in the company’s two store support centres in Birmingham and Croxley Park, have hosted a variety of fundraising events, ranging from static bike rides, sponsored walks, Zumba classes and zip wire challenges to raffles, jewelry cleaning, craft, clothes, bake and book sales. While Pennies digital charity boxes have enabled customers to make a small donation when they pay by card in store.
Each Christmas, the cuddly plush toy, now a sought-after collectible for many of the charity’s supporters, has become a popular item in H Samuel stores, with all profits from each sale going direct to the charity.
Young Lives vs Cancer help young people with cancer (0-25) and their families from the moment of diagnosis. Their specialist social workers are there to provide the support they need, when they need it, such as liaising with a child’s school, a parent’s employer or helping to navigate the costs of cancer. The charity also provides financial grants to help families with the costs of cancer such as travel to hospital, food and extra clothing. Their ten Home from Homes also offer families a free place to stay nearby to hospital.
Helen Gunter, Head of Communications at Signet said: “We are incredibly proud to celebrate this significant milestone in our partnership with Young Lives vs Cancer. Thanks to the tireless fundraising efforts and dedication of our amazing team members, along with the generosity of our customers, we’ve been able to support the charity in its vital work. Through our partnership, we are thankful that we have been able to play a small part in helping this wonderful charity provide essential care and support to children, young people, and their families during the most difficult of times.”
Sarah Smith, Partnerships Fundraiser at Young Lives vs Cancer said: “I want to say a massive thank you to Signet for their phenomenal fundraising efforts over the past 10 years. The team have raised an incredible amount during our partnership, and it’s making a huge difference to the children and young people with cancer and families that we’re here to support. We rely entirely on donations to fund our vital work, and it’s been humbling to see Signet staff and customers get behind this partnership and make it such a success. We can’t thank them enough for their fantastic efforts and look forward to continuing working together.”

About cancer in children and young people
Today, 12 more children and young people in the UK will hear the devastating news that they have cancer. Treatment normally starts immediately, is often given many miles from home and can last for up to three years. Although survival rates are over 80%, cancer remains the single largest cause of death from disease in children and young people in the UK.
About Young Lives vs Cancer
When a child is diagnosed with cancer life becomes full of fear, for them and their family. Fear of treatment but also of families being torn apart, overwhelming money worries, of having nowhere to turn to, no one to talk to.
Young Lives vs Cancer is the charity that helps children and young people (0-25) and their families find the strength to face whatever cancer throws at them. The charity’s social workers offer specialist, empowering support, its Homes from Home offer families a free place to stay nearby to the child’s hospital and grants help families to navigate the costs of cancer. We’ve been there before. We’ll face it all, together. For more information visit www.younglivesvscancer.org.uk
