From your community
Local communities have never been more important and volunteering in yours has never more powerful. That’s why our ‘from your community’ volunteer roles are so special. You’ll be connecting with people locally and using your connections to be the voice, eyes and ears of Young Lives vs Cancer. Whether that’s virtually or in person.
Check out more information on each role below, complete the application form and we’ll be in touch to get you ready to hit the road running for children and young people with cancer.
Ever heard the saying ‘you can’t have your cake and eat it too’? Well this volunteer role throws that saying out the window!
This role is for those who like to have strong relationships in their local areas, know the businesses, the shops and enjoy speaking to the people in them (the cake). And for those who like to fold volunteering into your everyday life while still raising funds (this is where you get to eat the cake) towards our services to support children and young people with cancer. It’s perfect!
What you will be doing:
- Seeking out new locations for collection tins (think your local butcher, post office, stationary shop, corner shop – the places you visit on a regular basis)
- Building relationships with people at tin locations
- Placing and replacing tins four times per year
- Counting and banking donations
You will be working with numbers for the banking part of this role so you’ll need to feel comfortable doing that. We’ll ensure that you receive the right training and support to feel confident in your role and make sure you get your cake and can eat it too!
Joining our team as a Fundraising Engager may just be the best decision you ever make.
We’re looking for people who can bring the fight for young lives against cancer to their local communities by telling more people about the work we do, raising more awareness of fundraising and campaigns, be our face at events and generally oozing Young Lives vs Cancer through everything you do.
You’ll be a go-getter, flexible and up for putting your own stamp on your volunteering.
One day you could be organising a local collection, the next sharing our latest campaign on your social media, the next talking to businesses who are potential partners. The world is your oyster.
You will need to be over 18 and have a good knowledge of your local area, enjoy meeting and talking to people and have the motivation to seek out new opportunities for Young Lives vs Cancer.
Making meaningful connections and partnerships with businesses and organisation, big and small, is one of our key fundraising priorities but we can’t do it alone. We’re looking for volunteers who can put their research skills to use and help us to identify and connect with potential partners in their area.
This role can be done from your home at a pace that suits your other commitments. In many cases you’ll get to work alongside our Fundraising Engagement Managers to collate information and make approaches to organisations using the latest information from our service delivery teams.
What you will be doing:
- Use your local knowledge and research skills to build a list of potential supporting groups, organisations and businesses, as well as larger companies based in in your area
- Researching current Charity of the Year partnerships and finding out when they renew
- Seeking out Community or Charity Champions for businesses
- Possibility to prepare approaches to businesses to help kick start a future relationship
We will ensure that you receive the right training and support for you to feel confident in your role.
Young Lives vs Cancer Fundraising Groups are special. Across the UK each year they run huge themed events, carol concerts, regular local bucket collections, raffles and stalls at fetes. The list goes on and on and the possibilities are endless.
Groups organise their own activities and events with the support of a Young Lives vs Cancer Fundraising Engagement Manager. By joining, or creating a group you’ll be able to put your passion and creativity into a positive outlet and achieve some incredible things, personally and for Young Lives vs Cancer.
Each group has a leader, a banker and members. We ask that each group run at least two events per year, with the support of our expert fundraisers.
Whether you’d like to join an existing group in your area or create a group of your own, apply below and our team will be in touch to chat ideas!

If you are an amateur, hobbyist, or professional photographer and want to join #TeamYoungLives then getting involved with one of our events might be the perfect opportunity for you.
The photos you create will be fully credited to you, shared with event participants and they may go on to be used in future advertising campaigns.

The makings of a good cheer point are location, materials, organisation and smiles! If you think you’ve got the instincts to choose a good cheering spot, ability to set up banners and balloons (we provide all of this), and the smiles to greet your fellow cheerers then this is the role for you.
Cheer points are special places where family, friends and fellow volunteers join together to give their loved ones, or fellow charity supporters, a good old scream! That takes organisation, and people like you to set up, host and take down the cheer point.
It would involve:
Get to the course early to save a good spot and fix banners and flags to railings
Meet and greet family, friends and other cheerers
Lead the team in cheering on our fantastic Young Lives vs Cancer sporting legends
Pack down the cheer point
